US road trip 07

Day 10 - monday 19th of march - Cody - Idaho Falls (560 mls / 9h)

We wanted to visit the Yellowtone today but we can forget it. Even yesterday, we were been told by the touristic information point of Deadwood that it was possible. Unfortunatly, it's actualy closed because of the snow. It's a big disapointment. Even by snowcoach, which is usualy organised in winter, it's not possible. The only way to get in is by the north, but only 5 or 10% are open and we can't really get inside. And as the geysers are not accessible, we decided to visit the Grand Teton National Park, wich was hardly recommended. Thus we left at 12 am, got there at 4 pm and started to visit it with the hope to see some animals. Second dispointment of the day, we only saw some deers outside the park. Apart that, it was a lovely day with some gorgeous landscapes. After a dinner in Jackson, we continued until Idaho Falls, where we arrived at 10.30 pm and passed the night in a motel (Pinecrest Inn, 44 $).

Jour 10 - lundi 19 mars - Cody - Idaho Falls (896 kms / 9h)

Aujourd'hui, nous souhaitions visiter le Yellowstone mais on peut oublier. Hier encore, le point d'information touristique de Deadwood nous disait que c'était possible. Malheureusement, c'est fermé à cause de la neige. C'est une grosse déception. Même avec les voitures-neige, ce qui est normalement organisé en hiver, ce n'est pas possible. Le seul moyen d'y accéder est par le nord, mais seulement 5 à 10% sont ouverts et on ne peut pas vraiment rentrer dedans. Et comme les geysers ne sont pas non plus accessibles, nous avons décidé de visiter le Park National du Grand Teton, qui nous fut chaudement recommendé. Nous sommes donc partis à midi, y sommes arrivés à 16h et avons commencé la visite avec l'espoir d'apercevoir des animaux. Seconde déception de la journée, nous avons seulement vu des cerfs, et ce, en dehors du park. A part ça, nous avons passé une bonne journée avec quelques merveilleux paysages. Après avoir mangé à Jackson, nous avons continué jusquà Idaho Falls, où nous sommes arrivés à 22h30 et avons passé la nuit dans un motel (Pinecrest Inn, 33 eur).

Day 11 - Tuesday 20th of march - Idaho Falls - Salt Lake City (221 mls / 3h)

Today is a relaxing day. We have about 200 mls to do. We started thus at 11 am. The landscape doesn't really change anymore, same large dry areas,.... We arrived in Salt Lake City at 2 pm. We started to look for a motel but inst?ead of taking us about 10 - 15 min, like usualy, to find something, it took us 2 hours! Why? because we normaly try to find one of the cheepest one but this time we wanted a wifi connection in the room. We finaly found one ( city creek inn, 61 $). It cost us thus about 20 $ more than usualy and it wasn't really a bargain! Internet wasn' t working properly, there were no fridge, cofee,... It's a lesson for next time... After that Jerome visited the city and went out in a pub while I (ludovic) was staying at the hotel as I was a bit seek.

Jour 11 - Mardi 20 mars - Idaho Falls - Salt Lake City (354 kms / 3h)

Aujourd'hui est un jour un peu plus relax. Nous avons plus ou moins 300 kms à faire. Nous sommes donc partis à 11h. Le paysage ne change plus vraiment, mêmes larges et sèches terres... Nous sommes arrivés à Salt Lake City à 14h. Nous avons commenceé à chercher un motel mais à la place de nous prendre 10-15 min comme d'habitude, ça nous a pris 2 heures! Pourquoi? Parce que normalement, nous essayons de trouver un des moins cher mais cette fois-ci, nous en cherchions un avec wifi dans la chambre. Nous en avons finalement trouvé un (City Creek Inn, 46 eur), il nous a donc coûté 15 eur plus cher que normalement mais ce n'était pas vraiment une bonne affaire! Internet ne marchait pas correctement, il n'y avait pas de frigo, café,...c'est une leçon pour la prochaine fois... Après ça, Jérome est allé visité la ville et est sorti dans un café pendant que je (ludovic) suis resté à l'hôtel car j'étais un peu malade.

Day 12 - wednesday 21 of march - Salt Lake City - Mexican Hat (419 mls / 6h)

Today, we wake up earlier than usualy.We left the city à 9 am. We added something at our journey, the Arches National Park. It was lovely.After that, we visited the Valley of Gods, another great place. The weather wasn't that good, raining most of the time but it stoped a bit before the Valley of Gods.We finished our day at 7.30 pm in Mexican Hat in a local restaurant.We slept in a lovely motel (Hat Rock Inn, 60$)

Jour 12 - mercredi 21 mars - Salt Lake City - Mexican Hat (670 kms / 6h)

météo: Salt Lake City - pluvieux - 11°C

Aujourd'hui, on s'est levé plus tôt que d'habitude. On a quitté la ville à 9 heures. On a rajouté quelque chose à notre voyage du jour, le parc national des Arches. C'était magnifique. Après celà, on a visité la vallée des dieux, une autre destination à ajouter à notre carnet de route.Fruit du temps et de l'érosion, ces deux merveilles de la nature ont su nous captiver. La météo n'était pas si bonne, il pleuvait la plupart du temps mais ça s'est arreté juste avant la vallée des dieux. On a terminé notre journée à 19h30 à Mexican Hat dans un petit restaurant local. On a dormi dans un sympatique motel (Hat Rock Inn, 45 eur)

Day 13 - Thursday 22 of march - Mexican Hat - Page (166 mls/4h)

Last night, we had a big problem. A virus infected my laptop anddeleted everything (files, pictures, musics,...). A disaster! I finaly solved the problem this morning and have everything back. we are lucky cause all the pics from the last days were on it and deleted from the camera. After the problem solved, we left Mexican Hat at 1 pm and visited Monument Valley. We met there a french guy, really nice, Raphael. He joined us for the visit of the park. We had a great time even if the weather wasn't perfect. But as it wasn' t raining, it was not too bad. Monument valley is really similar that the Valley of God but it still stunning. We left at 6 pm and reached Page at 9 pm. We found a cheap and nice motel (Empire motel, 36 $)

Jour 1" - jeudi 22 mars - Mexican Hat - Page (265 kms/4h)

Hier soir, on a eu un gros problème. Un virus a infecté l'ordinateur et effacé tout son contenu (documents, photos, musiques,...). Un désastre! J'ai finalement réussi à résoudre le problème ce matin et tout récupéré.Une chance car toutes les photos des derniers jours étaient sauvegardées dessus et effacées de l'appareil photo. Une fois le problème résolu, on a quitté Mexican Hat à 13h et visité Monument Valley. On y a rencontré un français très sympa, Raphael. Il s'est joint à nous pour la visite du parc. On a passé un bon moment même si le temps n'était pas trop de la partie. Mais on peut pas trop se plaindre, vu qu'il ne pleuvait pas. Monument Valley est très semblable à la Vallée des Dieux mais c'est toujours aussi impressionant. On est parti à 18 h et arrivé à Page à 21h. On a trouvé un motel sympa et pas cher (Empire motel, 24 eur)

Day 14 - Friday 23 of march - Page - Flagstaff (237 mls/ 5h)

weather: Page - rainy - 52°F

What a f... day! It's raining a lot and we are supposed to visit Grand Canyon! After a long hesitation about what to do, we finally left at 1 pm. The road was difficult, there were a lot of fog. We started to "watch" the Grand Canyon (or rather only a small part of it as we couldn't see nothing). Then, we went to the Grand Canyon village (market plaza, restaurant, bank,...). On the road, we saw some deers. When we came back to one of the view points (Mather point, Yavapai point,...), we met a french family wich the children live in San Francisco. It was nice and we had our picture of the day! In meantime, the fog had disappeared and we finally enjoyed the view even if it was still really cloudy. It's impressive, amazing, it 's bigger than we thought and it doesn't look real (maybe because it wasn't enough luminous...). We would have loved to see it on a sunny weather... To recapture that, we finished the visit with the Grand Canyon movie wich showed us it on a different (and sunny!) angle. We arrived in Flagstaff at 9 pm, found a motel (Town house motel, 44$).

Jour 14 - vendredi 23 mars - Page - Flagstaff (379 kms / 5h)

météo: Page - pluvieux - 11°

Quelle journée de m....! Il pleut beaucoup et on est sensé visiter le Grand Canyon aujourd'hui. Après de longues hésitations, on est finalement parti à 13h. La route était mauvaise à cause du brouillard. On a commencé à "regarder" le Grand Canyon (ou plutôt le peu qu'on en voyait) puis on est allé au Village du Grand Canyon (magazins, restaurant, banque,...) Sur la route, on a croisé des cerfs. Lorsqu'on est revenu aux points d'observations (Mather, Yavapai,..), on a rencontré une famille française dont les enfants vivent à San Francisco. C'était très sympa et on avait notre photo du jour. Entre temps, le brouillard avait disparu et on a enfin pu profiter de la vue, même si, c'était toujours nuageux. C'est impressionnant, fabuleux, c'est encore plus grand qu'on s'imaginait et en même temps ça semble irréel (peut-être à cause de la luminosité...) On aurait adoré le voir sous un beau soleil... pour rattraper celà, on a fini la visite par une projection 3D (Imax) sur le Grand Canyon qui l'a montré sous un angle différent (et ensoleillé). On est arrivé à Flagstaff à 21h, trouvé un motel (Town House motel, 33 eur)
