US road trip 07

And here we are, we gonna try to update as often as possible (every two/three days, thus do not hesitate to check regularly... It's also here that you can let us some comments about the website, pictures, give us some news,... or if you have any questions... thus do not hesitate. ENJOY THE TRIP!!!

Et voilà, nous y voilà, on va essayer de le mettre à jour le plus souvent possible (tous les deux/trois jours donc n'hésiter pas à venir vérifier régulièrement...

Day 1 - saturday 10 march - NY - Niagara Falls (430 miles/7h)

weather: NY (49°F, cloudy, not too cold).

Here we are, the D-Day.
We went to take the car but lost about one hour because we wanted to add a second driver and it's really expensive for someone younger than 25! For 42 days, the car's final cost is 4000 $!!!
We started our journey at 11 o'clock this morning. Our trip was already close to end after only 35 miles! We were driving quitly when a trailor just crossed our way and pushed us on the emergency line... By chance, there were one 's, without what...
At 3.30 pm, along Cortland, snowy and rainy landscape. Finaly we gonna sleep in Buffalo, At 15 min of the falls. (motel 6, 4400 Maple Rd, $55 tax incl for the room)
Arrival at 7 pm. quick look at the american' s side of the falls and quite night in the motel.

Jour 1 - samedi 10 mars - NY - chutes du Niagara (640 kms/7h)

méteo: NY (9,5°C, nuageux et pas trop froid)

Et voilà, le Jour J !!!
Nous sommes allés chercher la voiture, on a mis une heure car on voulait mettre un deuxième conducteur et pour un conducteur de moins de 25 ans c'est super cher! Résultat, pour 42 jours la voiture nous coûte au total 3000 euros!!!
Il est 11h du matin et nous voilà partis. On avait pas fait 50 kms que notre voyage a failli déja se terminer! On roulait tranquillement quand soudain, un poid lourd nous coupa la route, ce qui nous obligea à nous rabattre sur la bande d'arrêt d'urgence... Par chance, il y en avait une à cet endroit, sans quoi...
A 15h30, à hauteur de Cortland, paysage enneigé et pluie. Finalement, on va passer la nuit à Buffalo, à 15 min des chutes. (motel 6, 4400 Maple Rd, 41euros taxe incl pour la chambre) Arrivée à 19h. petit coup d'oeil aux chutes du côté américain et soirée tranquille à l'hôtel

Day 2: sunday 11 of march - Buffalo - Windsor (365 miles/8 hours)

weather: Niagara falls - sunny (38°F)

Departure at 11 am. Lovely day today, sunny and not too cold. After 2 hours of road, we arrive at Canadian side of the Niagara Falls.Confirmation of what we've been told, they are amazing, wonderfull. And it's even a small word to describe them. We stayed there about two hours. After that, direction Toranto (2hours of road). We are thinking about just pass over there and then follow the road. Thus we finally stopped there 3 hours to upload the website,and this, in the car with a bic Mac on the streets of Toranto!! At 8 pm, we are belonging. We gonna stop somewhere to sleep, maybe in Detroit if we can reach it. Then we will have a day that we can spend in another place more interesting... We haven't done any reservation for a motel for tonight. It's more adventurous. We will stop when we are tired. And here we are, finally, we slept in a small motel at 5 min of the american border and 15 min of Detroit (Ambassador Motel, 42 $ the room)

Jour 2: dimanche 11 mars - Buffalo - Windsor (584 kms/8 heures)

météo: chutes du Niagara - ensoleillé (5°C)

départ à 11h. très belle journée aujourd'hui,du soleil et pas trop froid. Après deux heures de route, on arrive aux chutes du côté canadien. Confirmation de ce qu'on nous avait dit, elles sont splendides. Et encore, c'est un petit mot pour les décrire! On y est resté deux heures. Ensuite direction Toranto (2 heures de route). Pour finir, on pense seulement y passer, puis continuer. On y est donc resté 3 heures pour mettre le site à jour et celà, dans la voiture autour d'un bic mac dans les rues de Toranto!! Puis à 20h, on continue. On s 'arretera quelque part pour dormir, on va essayer d'aller jusqu'à Détroit, comme ça on aura gagné un jour. Ce qui nous permettra d'avoir un jour en plus pour un endroit qui nous plait...Ce soir on ne réserve pas de motel, c'est plus aventureux. On s'arretera quand on sera fatigué. Et voilà, pour finir on s'est arreté dans un petit motel sympa à 5 min de la frontière américaine et 15 min de Détroit (Ambassador Motel, 32 euros la chambre)

Day 3: monday 12th of march - Windsor - Chicago (288 mls/4h)

Weather: Windsor - rainy - 44°F

Departure at 11 am, passage at the american border and arrival in Detroit at 12 am. Visit of the Tiger's baseball stadium in Detroit. At the stadium's chop, we got on with the seller who autorized us to take some pictures of the stadium, usualy forbidden. Then, we went to the General Motor building and quick visit of the city. It wasn't realy nice, it was empty and maybe because of the fact that after cities like New-York, we are not anymore impressed... We left the city in direction of Chicago at 5.20 pm or rather 4.20 pm because we' ve just been told that they did the passage of summer time this weekend. But as in Chicago, we usualy win one hour, it's gonna be like we don't change. We arrived in Chicago at 9.20 pm. We hadn't book any hotel before and thus it was quite hard to find something cheap and not too far. We finaly found something in the middle of the town. It's not realy in good state but for the price... and we are in the centrum thus it's ok. (Tokyo hotel, 62 $)


Jour 3: lundi 12 mars - Windsor - Chicago (461 kms/4h)

météo: Windsor - pluvieux - 8°C

Départ à 11h00, passage de la frontière américaine et arrivée à Detroit à 12h. Visite du stade de baseball des Tigers de Detroit. A la boutique du club, on a sympatisé avec le vendeur qui nous a autorisé à photographier le stade, normalement interdit. Ensuite, visite du complexe General Motor et petite visite de la ville. C'était pas si bien, peut être qu'après New-York, ça ne nous impressione plus... On reprend la route pour Chicago à 17h20 où plutôt à 16h20 car on vient d'apprendre qu'ils étaient passés à l'heure d'été ce week-end. Mais comme à Chicago on devait gagnr une heure, c'est comme si on change pas. On y arrive à 21h20. On avait pas réserver d'hôtel à l'avance donc c'était quand même assez difficile pour trouver quelque chose bon marché et pas trop loin. On a finalement trouvé en plein centre relativement bon marché mais pas dans le meilleur état de propreté. Mais bon, on est en plein centre donc ça va. (Tokyo hôtel, 46 euros)

Day 4: tuesday 13th of march - Chicago

weather: sunny - hot (72°F)

Today, discovering of Chicago under a lovely sky, it was really warm and nice. Sunglasses, t-shirt and sandals to visit the port, the beach and Michigan Av, the Champs Elysées of Chicago... Really amazing town on the lake's side and under a sun like this, we could even forget that we are in the winter and in the north of United States... And when we think that yesterday we were under the rain in Detroit with 48°F less. What a difference! At 8 pm, it was still 68°F!
After a long walking day, we came back to the hotel to rest a bit then we went out in disco with two girls from Connecticut ,that we met early during the day...


Jour 4: mardi 13 mars - Chicago

météo: ensoleillé, chaud (23°C)

Aujourd'hui, visite de Chicago sous un ciel magnifique, il faisait vraiment chaud et beau. Lunettes de soleil, t-shirt et tongs pour arpenter le port, la plage et l'avenue Michigan, les Champs Elysées de Chigago... Ville très impressionante en bord de lac et sous un soleil comme celui-là, on en oublierait presque qu'on est encore en hiver et dans le nord des Etats-Unis...Hier encore, on était sous la pluie de Détroit avec 10° de moins. Quel changement! A 20h, il faisait encore 21 degrés! Aprés une bonne journée de marche, on est rentrés se reposer un peu à l'hôtel puis on est sorti en disco avec deux américaines du Connecticut, rencontrées dans la journée...
